John Muir Heritage Land Trust
Open space on the edge of cities often gets eaten up by urban sprawl. Above Berkeley and Oakland California, a large track of land was in danger of falling prey to developers. We took this on as a probono project and for less than 3 thousand dollars raised over ten million. Ultimately the land was purchased and set aside for public use.
We created a series of stunts to raise awareness about the vulnerability of this open space. Working with local police we posted a series of signs on the busiest roads in the area. It required a huge amount of effort from a lot of people but the response was enormous. Placing signs above real animals that had perished had a huge impact on the community. Passers by were literally pulling over and handing us cash.
